Growing Green: An Earth Day Week to Remember ππ±
At Brighter Horizons ABA, we spent the week celebrating Earth Day with meaningful, hands-on activities that connected our clients to nature, creativity, and each other πΏπ
Our sensory experience this week was a spring garden sensory bin, filled with green rainbow rice, dried black beans, craft carrots, and flowers. Clients explored different textures while participating in imaginative play. Sensory activities like this help support regulation, fine motor development, and engagement in a fun and calming way πΎβ¨
We also got our hands a little messy (in the best way!) with Earth Day slime, giving clients a chance to explore new textures while building flexibility and tolerance for different sensory experiences.
One of the most impactful activities of the week was creating seed bombs, which we later planted in the flowerbed right outside the clinic. This gave our clients the opportunity to be part of something lastingβlearning about caring for the environment while practicing following directions, teamwork, and patience as they watched their efforts take root πΌπ
A very special highlight was a visit from Darbie the therapy dog on Tuesday! Clients had the chance to interact, practice gentle touch, and build comfort around animals in a supportive environment. These moments are not only exciting but also incredibly valuable for social and emotional growth πΎπ
Later in the week, we took a trip to a nearby park as a clinic, where clients enjoyed the fresh air and decorated Earth-themed cookies together. Outings like this provide wonderful opportunities to practice community-based skills like staying with a group, communicating needs, and engaging with peers in a natural setting π³πͺ
Our creativity continued with rock painting, where clients designed colorful rocks that are now part of our clinicβs flowerbedβadding a personal touch to the space they helped grow. We also explored art in a different way by painting Earth designs onto foam sponges and stamping them onto paper, encouraging creativity while working on motor coordination and following directions π¨π
This week was a beautiful reminder that learning can happen anywhereβespecially when itβs rooted in meaningful, real-world experiences. From planting seeds to exploring textures and connecting with peers, our clients embraced every opportunity to grow π±
We are so proud of their hard work, curiosity, and kindnessβand we loved celebrating our planet right alongside them ππ
