Wild About Learning: Our Zoo Animal Week 🦁🐘
At Brighter Horizons ABA, this week was full of animal-themed fun as we explored our Zoo Animals theme through sensory play, creative crafts, food activities, and a community outing that brought so many opportunities for growth 🐾🌿
For sensory exploration, clients enjoyed a seed sensory bin, where they practiced scooping, pouring, and exploring different textures using hands and sensory tools. Sensory activities like this encourage regulation, fine motor development, and imaginative play while creating a calming and engaging environment 🌱✨
Throughout the week, our specials activities helped bring zoo animals to life in creative ways! Clients made adorable handprint elephants, turning their own handprints into unique artwork while practicing following directions and fine motor skills 🐘🎨
We also created fox balloon paintings, using balloons to stamp and paint colorful foxes onto paper. This activity encouraged creativity, hand-eye coordination, and trying new painting techniques 🦊🖌️
For food specials, clients made banana penguins, combining fun and learning through hands-on food creation. Activities like this support independence, sequencing, and willingness to engage with different foods in a positive and social setting 🍌🐧
Another favorite activity was pom pom bear stamping, where clients used pom poms and paint to create textured bear art while strengthening grasping and coordination skills 🐻✨
To end the week, we took a community outing to Garage Burgers and a nearby park. These outings provide meaningful opportunities to practice important real-world skills in natural environments. Throughout the trip, clients worked on learner readiness, communication, waiting appropriately, peer engagement, transitioning between activities, and participating successfully within a group setting 🍔🌳
Watching clients interact with peers, communicate their wants and needs, and navigate the community with growing confidence is always so rewarding. Experiences like these help build independence and prepare clients for everyday situations beyond the clinic walls 💛
